JUNIOR THE DISCO PUNK - SD Union Profile - Junior is now regarded as one of the hardest working djs in San Diego and beyond (can you say giggin' 6 days a week!) Back in day (say early 90's ) many a bargoer knew him as the pool sharkin' hustler at Live Wire. The SD Union Night & Day did a profile & you can check it out here. Congrats on another Bargoer done good.
TRUE NORTH TAVERN - Got a few emails asking for a repeat on Bargoers take on True North so here tis. Bargoer says "Oh my!! Our ever evolving North Park." This place has a few folks worked up because its by guys who own Pacific Beach style places; Tavern at the Beach, Offshore Tavern, Sandbar Sports Grill, etc. Bargoer says quit the shouting. North Park is coming full circle back to 50's & 60's when there was a variety of bars, restaurants, lounges and supper clubs. 40 years ago North Park was a dining and entertainment center for all of SD and its happening again. True North is new and slick (check out the dyson hand blowers in the bathroom), but a little low in soul. A fellow bargoer said it best "its a nice facility." ECHT KRIEKENBIER - Traditional Flemish Cherry Ale - Brouwerij Verhaeghe Belgium. This refreshing ale is based on Vichtenaar and has the aroma of Kirsch cherry brandy, smooth, vanilla-like oaky palate and late surge of passion-fruit flavors. Local sour cherries are added during the maturation process to the wooden casks containing Vichtenaar. The final product is a blend of 1, 2 and 3 years old beers.
LITTLE OPAL SAISON - FIRESTONE WALKER BREWING - Buellton California. This was a hit from the Firestone Walker tasting party last Friday. Also called a Farmhouse Ale, has the look and taste of a Wit Beer, real smooth wheat flavors.
PLINY THE ELDER, Double IPA - RUSSIAN RIVER BREWING, Santa Rosa, California. Seems like just yesterday Russian River brewmaster Vinnie was delivering via pickup truck his Blind Pig ale from Temecula to Live Wire. Congrats Vin. And thanks for keeping the Wire well stocked with the Pliny - at least for a few days. Many this beer "the best showcase of hops in America." Get it while you can!
RUSSIAN IMPERIAL STOUT - STONE BREWERY - San Diego, California. Oh my. 10% by volume bubbly mocha goodness in a glass.
NAVIGATOR DOPPELBOCK - BALLAST POINT BREWERY - San Diego, California. A rare special brew. Aged in oak barrels, the end result is a smooth, but potent brandy toned ale. Respect it at 10%
